Lesson 12 · Diamonds & Engagement Rings · 46 seconds
What actually holds the diamond in your ring.
The setting is a mechanical structure, not just a style choice. See prongs and bezels side by side and what each trades off.
What this lesson shows
Prongs show more of the stone. A bezel protects more of the edge.
Prongs are narrow strips of metal that reach over the edge of the stone. The stone sits level inside them, then a jeweler bends the tips over its edge. A bezel is a thin rim of metal around the whole edge. Prongs leave more of the stone open to light. A bezel covers more of the edge and gives it a continuous frame.
Three quick takeaways
What to actually do when you shop
- Choose the setting as deliberately as the stone. The setting decides how light reaches the diamond and how exposed the edge is to everyday wear.
- Prongs read more open and traditional. Bezels read more modern and present a lower profile.
- Both wear. A jeweler should check prong tips once a year and re-tip when needed. Bezels still need attention, but failure is less abrupt.
The prong and bezel heads in the lesson are generic 3D illustrations with modeled stone-to-metal contact. Not a setting procedure or a specific Aydins product. The lesson uses an AI-generated narration voice (Holden preset), 3D-rendered models and some AI-generated supporting footage. See the campaign manifest for full disclosure.

Your diamond stays put because of this. Prongs are narrow strips of metal that reach over the edge of the stone. The stone sits level inside the prongs, then a jeweler bends the tips over its edge. It doesn't just click in. A bezel is a thin rim of metal around the whole edge. Prongs leave more of the stone open to light; a bezel covers more of the edge. Different look, different feel. Look at the setting as closely as the stone.
