Lesson 13 · Metals & Finishes · 42 seconds

Same metal, same ring. Different surface.

A finish is what a jeweler does to the surface of the metal. It changes how a ring shines and how everyday marks show. It does not change how hard the metal is.

What this lesson shows

A finish rearranges the light, not the metal.

Polished is smooth like a mirror, so it throws back sharp, bright reflections. Brushed has fine lines running one way, so light spreads into a soft directional sheen. Hammered has small dents, and each one catches the light at its own angle. All three can be refinished later, but no finish is scratch-proof.

Three quick takeaways

What to actually do when you shop

  • Pick a finish for how it looks in motion, not from one still photo. Polished looks sharpest, brushed looks softer, hammered looks most textured.
  • A finish does not change the metal's hardness. Scratches on a polished ring are obvious; on brushed and hammered, small marks blend into the texture.
  • Finishes can be refreshed. A jeweler can re-polish, re-brush or re-hammer most bands as part of normal service.

The ring in the lesson is one 3D model shown in three surface treatments. The macro views are enlarged illustrations, not photographs of a specific Aydins ring. The lesson uses an AI-generated narration voice (Holden preset), 3D-rendered models and some AI-generated supporting footage. See the campaign manifest for full disclosure.
